The article "How's a family to get by on $250,000 a year?" (Sept. 25) implies that Todd Henderson, whose family's double income puts him in a high tax bracket, should fire the maid and his lawn service so that he can afford to pay higher taxes. That is a great idea. Then the government can use those taxes to put the maid and grounds keepers on welfare.

Am I the only one who thinks this is backward reasoning?
