During the six days from July 25 through July 30, a total of 8 homicides were reported in Baltimore City, according to the blog http://baltimorecrime.blogspot.com.
Only one homicide received significant and continued coverage by the Baltimore news media and outcry from the citizens of Baltimore, that of Stephen Pitcairn, a promising young Johns Hopkins cancer researcher.
I do not seek to minimize the loss of Mr. Pitcairn's life. Rather, my intention is to emphasize the fact that seven other people lost their lives through similar violent means. Murder occurs across racial, social, and economic divisions. Sadly, outrage is reserved for the privileged or promising.
