Constitutional convention needed to rein in politicians

Maryland should have a constitutional convention with main agenda to be return the power from the politicians back to people ("To convene or not to convene," editorials, July 10). The people should demand changes to the laws and strip these that allow the government to raise salaries and protect pensions and health care costs for themselves, for the politicians are supposed be public servants and their pay salaries and pensions should not exceed those of the people they serve. It should be as plain and simple as that.

A big question that arises is, why should those who run the government be well off while the state's population suffers in a recession like we today? Cuts should come from the highest levels and pay and salaries of politicians should be the first to be reduced. So now we know the true reason to have a state constitutional convention: to end the government anarchy of guaranteed pay and salaries and pensions and to restore the faith of the state population in government at the same time. We demand nothing less and we demand it now. The power must be returned to the people so that government is told how and why it is supposed to function!
