As a Baltimore County resident and business-owner, I continue to be appalled at our government pension system's failure to adopt fairness and equality.
We have seen several high-profile individuals get or keep pensions that probably should not be allowed. But now, in The Baltimore Sun article on June 16, I read that Representative C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger is collecting $88,607 in a pension from Baltimore County while earning $174,000 as a congressman.
Is it not true that if a retiree on Social Security has additional income that exceeds a certain threshold that he or she loses some or all of the Social Security? When are we going to stop this wasteful "double-dipping" and excessive government pension payments that waste our tax dollars? Probably never since the very people benefiting from it would have to vote to eliminate it.
