May I recommend a new catch-phrase for Baltimore City: "The City With No Shame?" It was a national embarrassment when a corrupt mayor was forced to resign. Recently, a school administrator cheated on exam results to boost the school's educational achievements. The City Council has chosen to not honor its word by intentionally underfunding a pension fund. Yet, the City Council feels some sense of moral superiority by joining in the suit to stop Arizona from addressing its illegal immigration problem.
Here is an interesting moral precept for Baltimore City: "walk the talk." Arizona does not want illegal immigrants, and the Baltimore City Council appears to be pro-illegal aliens. There is "win-win" potential here. Baltimore City could invite Arizona's illegal immigrants to move to Baltimore City. It is estimated that Arizona has 500,000 illegals. Certainly Baltimore could welcome 5 percent, only 25,000, of these illegals. I am sure convenient transportation could be arranged. I doubt that thousands of illegal immigrants in Baltimore will have any negative impact on the current city budget mess, and certainly thousands of illegals in Baltimore would not impact the city's unemployment figures.
Be mindful that if Baltimore City does not follow-up with a welcome for these illegals, its refusal to act could be interpreted as a bit of hypocrisy. So Baltimore City, the ball is in your court. Put up or shut up.
