GOP wants to tear down Obama, not solve problems

It is apparent that the our right wing friends continue to be furious over the fact that Barack Obama sits in the White House. Michael DeCicco in his letter ("Nobody can deny it anymore: Obama is failing," Readers respond, June 14) would have you believe that the ills presently confronted by our country are the fault of our young president, two years into his term of office, as he struggles to address the problems generated by eight years of gross mismanagement by the previous administration. Like the Republicans in Congress, he is clearly more intent on making the president look bad than on addressing the problems we face, publishing withering criticisms but not offering any serious, constructive ideas for dealing with the issues. The excessive and shrill negativity with which he speaks is non-productive and I am sure fails to impress, much less alarm, anyone.

From my perspective, the vast majority of people in this country very much want our president and his administration to succeed in their efforts to help the economy back onto its feet, to get the unfortunate BP mess in the Gulf of Mexico rectified, to bring our soldiers back from Iraq as soon as possible, among other things; and, with the constructive support of good citizens, I am confident that they can.
