Immigrant labor not a horse racing tradition

Regarding the lack of Hispanic racetrack workers at Pimlico ("Racing's lack of labor," May 11), the presence of Hispanics is hardly "traditional." I grew up near Pimlico, and my late husband worked at the track "walking hots" as a teenager. His friend's father worked at the track with the horses. While there may be some non-Hispanics who do not want this work, I'm sure there are many who would be happy to work. Maybe Dan Rodricks can put the horse owners in touch with some potential employees.
