Sexting shouldn't land teens on offender registry

I don't understand why teenagers should be added to the sex offender registry for sexting. If both parties (the sender and the receiver) are under the age of 18, why is it necessary to make them register? That's not saying that I agree with sexting, because I don't. I just don't think this will solve the problem.
