After reading the article by Annie Linskey on the Tea Party protest in Annapolis Wednesday night ("'Vote them out' chant comes from tax protesters' rally," Jan. 14) I don't believe she was there. She referred to several hundred people being there and only a few buses. The fact is that all of Lawyers Mall was filled shoulder to shoulder by the people attending. There were at least 2,000 people and some thought as many as 3,000. There were a lot of buses and some of the riders had difficulty finding the bus they arrived on.
Ms. Linskey also inferred that those attending were from the far right. The fact is that the group was made up of common citizens such as retirees, teachers and farmers who simply want the government to stop making our decisions for us and stop taxing us to death while wasting our tax dollars. Those attending came from every part of Maryland. Ms. Linskey failed to mention that a black man running for Congress was one of the speakers and a female state member of the house who is a Democrat was also one of the speakers. It is this kind of reporting that makes people hesitant to believe what is written in our papers.
The fact is that millions of Americans are fed up with the politicians trying to force a medical plan on us that we do not want, spending our money on illegal immigrants, spending our money on pork barrel projects so that a congressman or senator will deliver their vote and spending money that our children will have to pay for. The Tea Parties are a way for the people to share their thoughts with government, and they are growing across the country. There will be more and larger ones to come until our representatives realize that they were sent to serve the people, not themselves.
