Sun insults Waters — and the pope [Letter]

I very much enjoyed your the Sun Magazine article on John Waters and his holiday celebration ("A John Waters Christmas," Nov. 24). National figures who hail from, and remain connected to, Baltimore are always of special interest.

However, I am disgusted and reviled by your reference to him as the "Pope of Filth" because it denigrates Mr. Waters beyond belief and because it is an inappropriate use of the title of the head of one of the world's great religions. It's hard to imagine that the storied Baltimore Sun would stoop so low in an effort to be cute. I believe you owe both Mr. Waters and the Pope apologies.
