I understand that tolls in Maryland have remained the same for many years, but I'm still quite annoyed at the current proposals for raising them. I also understand how a homeless man on the street could use a few extra bucks when he is wearing worn and torn clothing; but I'd wonder what was going on if he were wearing a tuxedo. Such is my annoyance with Maryland toll facilities.
There seem to be abundant funds for electronic signs that are now installed every few miles on all major highways, even though there is a dearth of useful information displayed. Knowing that it may or may not take me 12 minutes to drive 12 miles to reach point B is beyond useless.
The 800 number displayed for us to report suspicious activity to my knowledge has only served to instigate a terrorist act when letter bombs were sent to Annapolis mail rooms. To some, this might suggest a bad idea, but not in Maryland; the signs are back.
The few times that actual traffic information is displayed, I have found it outdated and my best advice is generally to do exactly the opposite of the action suggested. How much has been spent on this folly and whose cousin owns the sign company?
I have no problem with increased maintenance costs, and I am willing to pay my share. But let's see some reorganizing, rethinking and sacrifice on the part of the toll collectors before they come to see me.
