Hiring Ron Smith was the one good thing The Sun ever did

In regards to The Sun, I have always expressed my angst, waged my criticisms, and sent in op-eds and letters to the editors for consideration, as well my suggestions, to the extent I wonder if they have a dartboard in the editor's office with a picture of me on it. However, I do applaud when they make a decision that I feel I should laud.

Bringing Ron Smith on board is one of their best, and I both welcomed and enjoyed Ron's columns, as well as The Sun decision to grant him the freedom to express himself. I started working in 1984 as he stated his talk show on WBAL, so I consider him the one friend at work that keeps me distracted from my own problems.

But in a sense, I have become to feel he is more of a friend and supporter as he replies to more of my emails then any other Hearst personality, and very occasionally the replies are more conversational in tone. To me this aspect as well as respectful on-air demeanor, despite his occasional rants and frustrations, demonstrates that he valued, respected and appreciated his audience.

My only regret in regards to Ron Smith is that more people didn't listen to Ron or take into account what he was speaking about. Especially those people who were the topic of conversation.
