Bomb North Korea over a bad movie?

Peter Morici just can't help himself with regard to his loathing for President Barack Obama, but he jumped the shark with his latest commentary ("Blame Obama for movie's censorship," Dec. 22). How else can you explain his suggestion that we bomb North Korea in retaliation for the Sony hack? Does he really believe that President Obama should waste his time bailing out the sophomoric, unfunny Seth Rogen and the dumb and dumber Sony executives from their own folly?

"The Interview," their stupid excuse of a Christmas movie, should have been deep-sixed when it was first pitched to the studio. In fact, I'll bet Sony is secretly thrilled by all the free publicity in the hopes that this turkey won't bomb in the theaters when eventually released more widely. It does not appear that Sony took any steps to protect itself from hackers, even after being warned.

Censorship has a long history in this country and has become ingrained in our culture. Aside from local library and school boards, there were regional censorship boards, the Motion Picture Production Code, then the current MPAA rating system. Can anyone in this state forget the Maryland Board of Censors? I don't recall Professor Morici raising his voice in defense of John Waters when the board was trampling on his right to show his films in this state.

My guess is that if Professor Morici spends a couple of evenings watching some of the earlier works of Seth Rogen, he'll soon be lobbying incoming Gov. Larry Hogan to bring back the Board of Censors!
