Thanks for the excellent commentaries by Joshua Murdock ("Putting Freddie Gray in context," April 27), Leah Eliza Balter ("Baltimore's real, untelevised revolution," April 27) and Shaun La ("Police and 'Black Baltimore,'" April 27).
As a senior citizen, I find hope for the future in the wisdom and maturity of these young people. They expressed better than I could my thoughts on what is happening in Baltimore City.
They all pursued education and seek to live productive lives that contribute to the community. Good for them and thanks to their parents and the other adults who supported them along the way.
I am grateful to them and all the responsible, caring individuals of Baltimore who came out on Tuesday to clean up after the looters' destruction and to protest peacefully against police brutality and misconduct.
Whether police or criminal or politician or Wall Street speculators, such abuses of power never serve the public interest. These young writers are focused on the important issues — not how the mayor is dressed.
Let's hope we can all follow their example and be a positive force and not be distracted from the possibility for change.
Brian Gamble, Baltimore
