Ferguson riots hurt demonstrators' cause

I'm trying to get into the minds of the protesters in Ferguson ("Ferguson's grievance," Nov. 25).

Did they say to themselves: "Instead of just protesting with signs, speeches and making people aware of our feelings of injustice through our presence, lets cause havoc. We will close streets and cause major traffic jams, loot stores, burn buildings and destroy cars.

"Then when we have disrupted the lives of all the people who didn't have anything to do with the death of Michael Brown, that will make them have compassion and sympathy for our cause."

It didn't work for me. It just makes me feel like a bunch of hoodlums wanted an excuse to be hoodlums.
