As a seasoned educator, I feel that we have failed some of our youth and police officers in Baltimore. Is education the solution? Perhaps. Certainly, we need to examine what our children are being presented in our school system.
My suggestion is to first teach respect. Focus on the emotional and character development of the individuals. Teach the basic skills and allow time for physical activity. Physical education, music, art! Give students time to be actively productive. Too much time is spent sitting down, preparing for, and taking silly tests!
And, remember trade schools! Time to examine our educational priorities!
