Race, racism, racist. I am so tired of hearing these words whenever a candidate loses or a policy is defeated ("Race had a role in Hogan's win," Nov. 11). Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown lost to Larry Hogan because Mr. Brown ran one of the worst campaigns in recent Maryland elections. He even failed to show up for one of the debates during the primary, and because of the negativity of his campaign, many of his constituents failed to show up to vote for him.
It's funny, but when Allan West lost his seat two years ago, no one said it was because of racism, just that he was too conservative for his district. This year we have the first African-American senator from the South since reconstruction, and the first black female Republican House member ever. There are now six Republican women in the Senate. So much for racism and the Republican war on women.
By the way, to accuse voters of voting for or against someone because of their race is demagoguery and yes, racism!
