If black lives matter, why are so many black men killing each other?

Letter writer Sherri Alms suggests that "black lives matter," and I agree ("Why I join in proclaiming #BlackLivesMatter," Jan. 13).

However, she then mentions the recent incidents involving Eric Garner, Michael Brown and other unarmed black men killed by police.

I just want to point out that these incidents were newsworthy because they are unusual. The real shame is the high rate at which black men are killing each other.

For every George Zimmerman who kills a Trayvon Martin there are probably 100 or more Trayvon Martins killing other Trayvon Martins.

It's unbelievable to me that blacks killing blacks isn't the focus of attention by the black leadership.
