I have no idea what happened in Ferguson, Mo., or Staten Island, N.Y., but what happened at Baltimore's Washington Monument lighting recently was unacceptable ("Demonstrators interrupt Baltimore monument lighting event," Dec. 5).
I'm a firm believer in protests and have taken part in many over the years. Yet at the slightest hint of civil disobedience I leave. Deliberately disrupting last week's event was civil disobedience.
I understand the anger over recent grand jury decisions, but better ways to express disagreement were in order. If the monument lighting protesters had distributed fliers or created a solidarity presentation, I'd applaud.
But they disrupted the entire performance and dug in their heels to wreck everyone's enjoyment. That sent a dangerous message and must never be repeated.
