As a Muslim, my heartfelt condolences go out to the victims of the San Berardino shootings and their families. Such an attack on innocent lives is an attack on humanity and ought to be condemned as such ("FBI: California shooting investigated as act of terrorism," Dec. 4).

In fact, according to the teachings of Islam, "Whosoever killed a person ... it shall be as if he had killed all mankind."

According to this teaching, the 14 innocent lives taken in San Bernardino are as if all of humanity had been massacred 14 times over.

Moreover, arsenal of explosives and ammunition found at the suspects' home raises an important question: How were the attackers able to amass such an arsenal without the authorities having so much as a clue?

As a nation we must figure out how to nip this homegrown terrorism in the bud.
