Free speech trumps religious sensitivities

I largely agree Dr. Faheem Younus' contention that we should not "be so rough" in making hurtful, insensitive comments about Islam ("Just because you can ridicule Prophet Muhammad doesn't mean you should," Jan. 12).

However, hardly anyone who is a member of a minority by virtue of national origin, religion, skin color or just personal eccentricities has not been harangued by boorish, ignorant remarks.

The social repercussions for being different involve chastisement in the media, customer boycotts or loss of advertisement sponsorship. But the punishments never include shooting up an entire building full of office workers.
