The real message of 'American Sniper'

Columnist Susan Reimer should see the movie "American Sniper" ("'American Sniper' and war as entertainment," Jan. 21).

Why? Because apparently she doesn't have a clue of what it's about. This is not a crazed killer of babies or children. It is the story of a man assigned to protect his fellow soldiers, and it's actually about the life he lived that wasn't based on killing people.

There's a scene in the film where the hero, Kyle, kills a man carrying a grenade launcher just before a young boy comes along and picks up the weapon. Kyle has him in his sights but in his mind he's pleading with the boy to "please put that down."

Things get tense and then the boy drops the weapon and runs off. Kyle is totally relieved. He did not want to take that boy's life.
