Fear-mongering tactics mar Watson campaign

Your endorsement of Allan Kittleman for Howard County executive correctly compliments both candidates on their ideas and plans for the county ("Kittleman for county executive," Oct. 27).

As a registered Independent who has lived in the county for 41 years, I believe Senator Kittleman will provide us with a positive and transparent approach to governing.

I also believe that how you lead and govern is as important as the ideas that you bring to the office. That is why I have been so disappointed and concerned with the tactics displayed by the Watson campaign. Campaign strategies or tactics whose objective is to create fear based on false or incomplete information reflect on how someone will govern.

It is disingenuous to call it "just politics." Balancing soft positive ads to the general population with targeted fear based ads to specific voter blocs, especially women, does not demonstrate leadership and the ability to bring people together.

I often have said that if we cannot do it in Howard County, it cannot be done anywhere. This election has made us look more like everywhere else, and that is a shame.
