Bag tax proposal is bad for Baltimore

Governor-elect Larry Hogan's win is a mandate to roll back taxes, not increase them on struggling families. Baltimore City Councilwoman Helen Holton's bill to put additional economic burdens on Baltimore families is ill advised ("Fee on plastic bags distributed in Baltimore wins committee approval," Nov. 6).

It will not result in a cleaner environment. That requires an attitude change in people that leads them to take pride in their surroundings.

The bag tax is just another over-reaching tax that hurts business owners and consumers. You can't legislate good behavior. That comes from education and self respect.
