Why Hogan won

Why was Larry Hogan elected governor? The answer is simple: Mr. Hogan ran a clean campaign, unlike his opponent, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, whose campaign targeted Mr. Hogan with repeated negative attacks that failed to resonate with voters ("Hogan defeats Brown," Nov. 5).

Mr. Hogan's election represents a great and refreshing change for Maryland. One of the main reasons Mr. Hogan was the better choice is that he will cut some of the burdensome and unnecessary taxes that Gov. Martin O'Malley and Mr. Brown have imposed over the last six years

The current liberal Democratic administration had only one route to follow, and that was to tax more and spend more. Larry Hogan will put Maryland back on a track toward sanity.
