Christmas came early this year for the Hippodrome's "loyal subscribers." But it wasn't the nice side of Christmas, it was the Grinch that came to visit ("Hippodrome feels the heat from reseating process," Dec. 19).
My understanding is that this decision to change subscribers' seats originated in New York. Maybe that explains the insulting nature of the letter we received, which is written as if Baltimoreans were naive and easily duped.
The letter describes the changes in the majority of subscribers' seats — in my case to one with an obstructed view — as the theater's "gift" to loyal subscribers. It pours salt in the wound by saying the seating change was happening because "we've heard your feedback" and "to provide a better subscriber experience."
Obviously the Hippodrome and its parent company do not value the loyalty of their subscribers. Maybe it's time the Hippodrome had some competition from another local theater that offers off-Broadway productions like that the ones we in Baltimore have supported for years.
