Maryland's recent report on fracking safely is an example of smart governing ("O'Malley administration sets out path to fracking in Md.," Nov. 25). In July 2011, Gov. Martin O'Malley ordered a commission to be formed by the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Department of Natural Resources. The members were very diversified, and they met over 30 times, mostly in Western Maryland. The resulting report is well thought out. This is the way good government should operate, slowly, deliberately and intelligently. Thank God Larry Hogan wasn't in office. He has already spoken out saying that the report took too long. The legislature needs to use the report when developing the laws regulating this controversial topic.
