After reading the day's newspaper I sometimes ask myself why I bother to keep informed about this city when it seems so obvious there is not much hope for improvement in people's behavior.
I read about the policeman who slit a pet dog's throat, then claimed he did it to protect a pregnant woman it had bitten, then changed his story to say he did it to put the animal out of its misery because it was strangling on a dog pole.
What next? I can hardly wait for the outcome of this officer's day in court.
Then I read a letter to the editor suggesting that columnist Dan Rodricks should have "politely confronted" a litterbug passenger on the MTA bus.
Mr. Rodricks could have been assaulted, shot and or killed for his trouble. I wondered if the writer (who apparently lives in Glen Arm) has ever been a passenger on an MTA bus in this city.
