Kamenetz saddles Dundalk with a sad distinction

Congratulations to the Baltimore County Council for recently passing legislation that will help protect our treasured parks from development and also help preserve the quality of life in our county. Unsurprisingly, County Executive Kevin Kamenetz chose not to "sign off" on this important legislation — which will nevertheless take effect this month. Mr. Kamenetz's refusal to endorse the unanimous County Council action on this issue suggests that he may be out of touch and out of step with the majority of Baltimore County citizens.

Unfortunately, the legislation is not retroactive. As such, the fate of North Point Government Center Park in Dundalk remains in the balance. If the sale of this parkland proceeds, the citizens of Dundalk will have the unique distinction of being the only citizens in the county who will ever lose treasured parkland for commercial development — a proposition that is fundamentally unfair by any standard.
