Police Commissioner Anthony Batts recently wondered if there would be marches for the city police officer who was shot during a traffic stop ("Officer shot in West Baltimore," Dec. 15).
Mr. Batts implies that the shooting was equivalent to the police-involved shootings of multiple unarmed black men around the country. But there is no moral equivalence between the two.
When a police officer is shot, the perpetrator almost always is brought to justice. That doesn't happen when police kill young black men.
So no, Mr. Commissioner, we don't need to march for the police.
