Senator did U.S. a disservice with torture report

The scathing report that Sen. Diane Feinstein released on the CIA's interrogation methods and tactics was the worst possible thing she could have done ("Report condemns CIA over torture," Dec. 10).

As the head of the Democratic-led Senate Intelligence Committee she should have known better. It must not have mattered to Ms. Feinstein that committee members were briefed at least 40 times during the period covered by the report about what techniques the CIA was using — and they raised no objections then.

Ms. Feinstein's foolish action will now embolden our enemies in Muslim countries to take more action against America. All Ms. Feinstein has accomplished is to endanger our safety and security. Her report was absolutely not necessary.
