Enough about taxes, what about the budget cuts?

The Sun is a powerful educator and information provider to many Marylanders. On the continuing Maryland budget issue, can you include more articles focused on state government spending? I have read many articles on potential taxes including the gas tax, sales tax, flush tax and high earners' loss of deductions. There have even been articles about the shifting the liability of teacher pensions from the state to the counties. But I haven't read any details on what is included in the proposed $610 million cuts or other potential changes on spending.

The Maryland Budget Highlights document on the state's website shows that overall, the state budget is proposed to increase almost 10 percent from two years ago. This is based on $35.541 billion budget for 2013 compared to the 2011 budget of $32.669 billion. The report also has a nice pie chart breaking down the proposed budget into 11 categories. It would be very informative to read a series of articles generally discussing the content of each budget category and the changes that are being proposed. But at the least, please write articles providing more detail on possible budget cuts and what they really mean. Then the entire budget story, revenues and expenditures, would start to be more widely available and understood.

In one of your editorials, you criticized the governor for not properly explaining what cuts he has made over the years and the cost of some of his proposals. You have the opportunity to help him with that issue. Thanks for your consideration.
