Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, despite running in a state with a 2-to-1 Democratic majority and despite his outspending Larry Hogan by at least a 5-to-1 margin, lost the gubernatorial election for two simple reasons ("Why Hogan won," Nov. 5).
First, his campaign was so utterly and completely negative that it turned off the majority of Maryland voters of all political persuasions. Second, Mr. Brown did not once explain how his two terms as lieutenant governor qualified him to be governor, nor did he enunciate his plans should he win election.
The result was a blowout loss and perhaps the biggest political upset of the 2014 election cycle.
