It's just a few weeks into the new era of "Republican control" of Congress, and who could have predicted how things would turn out? It was just back in November when the pundits were endlessly pontificating about the demise of the Democratic Party, and now look how the tables have turned. It seems that House Speaker John Boehner is a better Democratic leader than Nancy Pelosi. And a worse leader of the Republicans, to boot.
But seriously, it's long past time for the Republicans to jettison the lunatic fringe of their party (which, unfortunately, is now the majority) and get down to the serious and ugly business of governing — or as the tea partiers would say, "selling out." Mr. Boehner, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the rest of their sorry ilk better make hay while the sun shines because their whole party is about to implode.
And they better hope their antics don't torpedo the negotiations with Iran, or they're hammering the final nail into Israel's coffin.
