William A. White II, police officer

William A. White II (Baltimore Sun)

William A. White II, a retired Baltimore County police officer and avid outdoorsman, died of a heart attack Wednesday at a friend's home in Raeford, N.C. He was 68.

The son of William A. White Sr., a Bethlehem Steel worker, and Mary White, a homemaker, William Augustus White II was born in Baltimore and raised in Lansdowne. He graduated from Lansdowne High School in 1965.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1965 and served until his discharge in 1968 as an electrician's mate.

Mr. White joined the Baltimore County Police Department in 1970 as a patrolman and later rose to become an officer. He was assigned to the Wilkens Precinct at the time of his retirement in 1986.

The former Lansdowne resident, who had lived in Pennsylvania and Florida, moved to Raeford about five years ago.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a lighthearted jokester, family members said. He liked telling stories from his days as a police officer.

A deeply religious man, Mr. White enjoyed studying the Bible and attending services at the Laurinburg Christian Church in Laurinburg, N.C.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at his church, 1111 Turnpike Road, Laurinburg.

He is survived by a son, William A. White of Millsboro, Del.; two daughters, Mary White Pultz and Stephanie White Agar, both of Leesburg, Va.; a sister, Betty Simms of Glen Burnie; his fiancee, Julia Bell of Raeford; and seven grandchildren. Marriages to the former Geraldine Bailey and Carol Whitlock ended in divorce.
