Valerie A. "Val" Linaburg, controller of Wilkins Rogers Inc., a milling operation, died Friday in her sleep at her Ellicott City home. She was 60.
The daughter of Joseph Attenborough, an insurance adjuster, and Barbara Attenborough, an office worker, Valerie Jean Attenborough was born in Seaford, N.Y., and raised in Deer Park, N.Y., where she graduated in 1972 from Deer Park High School.
Mrs. Linaburg earned degrees in criminology and accounting in 1980 from Towson University. She worked as a pharmacy technician at Mercy Hospital and Fields Pharmacy in Pikesville before becoming a store manger for Lerner Shops.
She later became an accountant at Wilkins Rogers Inc., the Ellicott City mill that produces Indian Head corn meal, Washington Corn Muffin, Washington Corn Bread and Washington Yellow Cake mixes.
She was married in 1983 to Howard Lester Linaburg and after raising their son, she returned to work in 2000 as the lead accountant for Wilkins Rogers Inc. In 2012, she became the company's controller.
"Val enjoyed a good glass of wine, reading and decorating her home," said her husband of 32 years, a former budget director for Baltimore's public schools, who retired from the Johns Hopkins University as finance manager.
She also enjoyed traveling and scrapbooking.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive, Ellicott City.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Linaburg is survived by her son, Jonathan Linaburg of Canton; and two brothers, Timothy R. Attenborough of Ellicott City and Jimi Attenborough of Loganville, Ga.
