Sylvia M. Fetter, a homemaker who enjoyed spending time at the beach, died Monday from congestive heart failure at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.
She was 83.
The daughter of Ove Gunther Nyman, a ship's chandler, and Hildegard Nyman, a homemaker, Sylvia Marie Nyman was born and raised in Audubon, N.J., and attended Audubon High School.
In 1961, Ms. Fetter moved to Randallstown, where she worked part-time for a cleaners. In 1980 she became a Sykesville resident.
She was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan and a member of the Billy Ripken Fan Club, family members said.
Ms. Fetter enjoyed gardening, tap dancing, bingo and playing cards. She also liked visiting casinos and Ocean City — which was her favorite beach destination, according to family members.
Plans for a celebration of her life and an open house are incomplete.
She is survived by a son, Frank Fetter of Ocean City; two daughters, Jeanne Chenoweth and Bettijane Shaffer, both of Sykesville; a brother, Ove Nyman of Bellmawr, N.J.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Janice Parker, died in 2006. Her marriage ended in divorce.
