Shirley Hodge, homemaker

Shirley Hodge, a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, died Feb. 6 at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center of cancer. She was 77.

The daughter of Samuel Wilson and Clotie Wilson, the former Shirley Wilson was born and raised in East Baltimore and attended city public schools.

She was married in 1952 to Curtis Hodge, a Bethlehem Steel Corp. steelworker. She worked briefly in a laundromat before becoming a homemaker and raising her seven children.

The Rosedale resident, who liked to cook and entertain family and friends, was known for her chicken dishes.

A card player, she enjoyed playing spades and tonk and watching classic westerns and "Family Feud" on TV.

Her husband died in 1984.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hodge will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Harvest Ministries, 2239 E. Fayette St.

Mrs. Hodge is survived by four sons, Curtis Hodge Jr., Melvin Hodge, Timothy Hodge and Bernie Hodge, all of Baltimore; two daughters, Dorothy Johnson of Baltimore and Karen Hodge of Rosedale; a brother, Walter Wilson of Baltimore; 30 grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Linda Butler, died in 1995.
