Salvatore J. Cameron

Salvatore Joseph Cameron, a retired mason and Air Force veteran, died Tuesday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after suffering a fall in his Eldersburg home.

He was 73.

Born in Hazleton, Pa., Mr. Cameron moved with his family to Baltimore's Lakeland neighborhood. He attended city public schools.

He earned his General Educational Development certificate after joining the Air Force in 1955. He was a communications specialist and teletype operator until his discharge in 1963.

A mason for nearly 40 years, Mr. Cameron spent most of his career with Drecchio Construction Co. In 1998, he went to work at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center.

He retired on a medical disability in 2008.

Mr. Cameron was a Ravens fan and a dog lover. He also enjoyed cultivating bonsai plants and collecting coins.

Graveside services will be held at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Baltimore National Cemetery, 5501 Frederick Ave.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, the former Linda Groomes, a Wal-Mart zone merchandising manager; two sisters, Mary Ann Drecchio of Perry Hall and Rita Talley of Kingsville; and many nieces and nephews.
