F. Robert Hunter III, vice president of DAP Inc., who had been a DeWalt power tools executive, died suddenly Wednesday at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The Ellicott City resident was 52.
Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Francis R. Hunter Jr. and the former Maureen Terese Dugan. He lived in Randallstown as a child and later moved to Ellicott City. He was a 1980 graduate of Centennial High School.
He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola University Maryland. After passing the Certified Public Accounting examination, he earned a degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.
Mr. Hunter was an intern at the Black & Decker Corp. as a student. He was later vice president of investor relations and vice president of finance for DeWalt power tools. Since 2008, he had been vice president and chief financial officer at DAP Inc. in Canton. DAP sells products used for repairs such as caulks, sealants and spackles.
Family members said Mr. Hunter helped coach football with his father for Randallstown Optimists. He was later involved with the Elkridge Youth Organization and Howard County Youth Association.
At the time of his death, he was a board member of the Center for Urban Families and was vice chair for St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also involved with Believe in Tomorrow National Children's Foundation.
Mr. Hunter attended 30 consecutive Orioles opening days. He was a Ravens season ticket holder and was a Maryland Terrapins fan. He skied and played golf at the Turf Valley Country Club.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive in Ellicott City.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Christie Ann Milliner Hunter; a son, Robert Carl Hunter of Ellicott City; a daughter, Elizabeth Maureen Hunter of Ellicott City; a brother, James "Jim" Hunter of Eldersburg; and two sisters, Mimi Higgins of Ellicott City and Lynne Hunter of Herndon, Va.
