Patricia H. Fulton, educator

Patricia H. Fulton, former assistant head of the Calvert School, who enjoyed sailing, died Friday at the Edenwald retirement community of cancer. She was 84.

The daughter of John Stanley Harrison, a Maryland Casualty Insurance Co. engineer, and Jean Merrican Harrison, a homemaker, the former Patricia Harrison was born in Baltimore and raised on Beech Avenue in Wyman Park.

A 1948 graduate of Eastern High School, she earned a bachelor's degree in 1952 from Goucher College. She earned a master's degree in 1957 in education from the Johns Hopkins University.

Mrs. Fulton began teaching in Baltimore public schools in 1952, and during her 18-year career taught at Gardenville, Montebello and Guilford elementary schools.

In 1970, she joined the Calvert School faculty, where she taught seventh-grade girls until she was named the school's assistant head in 1988. She retired in 1995.

Mrs. Fulton married Richard Brown Fulton, a manufacturers' representative, in 1996, and the couple settled into a home on Tuscany Court in the city's Tuscany-Canterbury neighborhood.

The couple enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and expanded their horizons after purchasing the Gadabout, a 35-foot trawler.

"We did the Inland Waterway three times and spent the winter in Key West," said her husband. "We sailed to the Long Island Sound and through the Erie Canal. She really enjoyed it.

Mrs. Fulton, who moved to the retirement community 41/2 years ago, also liked to travel, play bridge and backgammon and read.

She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church, 5407 N. Charles St., where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Mason is survived by her husband of 19 years and several cousins.
