Nancy P. "Polly" Deeley, volunteer

Nancy P. "Polly" Deeley, a homemaker and volunteer, died Tuesday of heart failure at the Pickersgill Retirement Community in West Towson. She was 88.

The daughter of a businessman and a homemaker, Nancy Price was born in Baltimore and raised in Lutherville.

She was a 1943 graduate of Towson High School and earned her nursing degree in 1946 from the Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

In 1946, she married Charles Carey "Skip" Deeley Sr., a dental supply company executive who died in 2012.

Mrs. Deeley had volunteered with Planned Parenthood of Maryland, Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Union Memorial Hospital and in the facial-cranial clinic at Children's Hospital.

She was a member of the Woman's Club of Roland Park and St. David's Episcopal Church, where she had taught Sunday school and was a member of the Altar Guild.

Mrs. Deeley, who was a gourmet cook, enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

"She was a phenomenal cook and had a broad range. She was known for her 'Friday Nights at the Deeleys,' where she would feed all of our friends before we went out," said her son, Charles Carey Deeley Jr. of Lutherville.

Mrs. Deeley was also a gardener.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at her church, 4700 Roland Ave.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Deeley is survived by her daughter, Mary Haskin Deeley of Timonium; and three grandchildren.
