After her marriage in 1935 to Joseph Ptaszynski, a first mate aboard tugboats, the couple remained in the Canton-Highlandtown neighborhood.
She was widowed in 1954.
During the 1980s, Mrs. Ptaszynski worked as a sales associate at Gallo Clothing Inc. on Eastern Avenue.
"My mother never learned to drive a car, so she walked everywhere or rode streetcars and buses," her son said. "She loved shopping on 'The Avenue' — Eastern Avenue — and walked there two or three times a week."
"She lived her entire life in the same neighborhood and had never been more than 250 miles from Baltimore, and that was the one time she visited New York City," said Mr. Ptaszynski.
