Margaret V. Schupp, a retired Crown Central Petroleum Corp. pension administrator, died of a stroke Oct. 23 at Oak Crest Village in Parkville. She was 89.
Born in Baltimore and raised on Ravenwood Avenue, she was the daughter of Frank Schupp, a purchasing agent for the Old Bay Line steamship company. When he died at age 47, her mother, Verbie Griffin Schupp, became a garment worker to support the family.
Miss Schupp was a 1940 Eastern High School graduate and worked about 40 years for Crown Central. She was secretary to the head of personnel before her promotion to oversee the company's pension plans, family members said.
She retired nearly 25 years ago and kept up her friendships with several co-workers through a card-playing group that endured for more than four decades.
Miss Schupp also played a game called Shanghai with a group at Oak Crest.
"Margaret was a whiz," said Anna Walega, who lives at Oak Crest. "She kept us straight."
Miss Schupp had been a longtime resident of Dalton Road in Hillendale before moving to the Parkville retirement community in 1998.
She was a longtime member of Towson United Methodist Church. The Red Cross gave her a certificate in the 1980s as a three-gallon blood donor.
Miss Schupp donated her body to the Maryland Anatomy Board.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Oak Crest Chapel, 8800 Walther Boulevard.
Survivors include a brother, Alvin H. Schupp, also an Oak Crest resident; and four nieces, Sandra L. Schupp of Rosedale, Bonnie J. Schupp of Pasadena, Nancy S. Ayers of Jarrettsville and Jaymie S. Watts of Phoenix.
