Leroy J. Dieter Sr., construction foreman, dies

Leroy J. Dieter Sr. was a retired construction foreman and heavy equipment operator.

Leroy J. Dieter Sr., a retired construction foreman and heavy equipment operator, died July 20 of heart failure at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was 80.

The son of Jacob Alfonza Dieter and Anna Catherine Kraft, Leroy John Dieter was born in Baltimore and raised on the family farm in White Marsh.

He graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1954.

Mr. Dieter worked as a foreman and heavy equipment operator for Consentino Construction Co. After moving to Holden Beach, N.C., in 1995, he worked for the Mac Construction Co. He retired in 2005.

He had lived for the past year at St. Elizabeth Hall on the grounds of Stella Maris in Timonium.

He enjoyed hunting and working around his home on improvement and maintenance projects.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday in the Stella Maris chapel.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Barbara Spear; a daughter, Susan L. Esposito of Fallston; two sisters, Irene Kemp of Rosedale and Anna Reinecke of Forest Hill; four grandsons; and two great-grandsons. His son, Leroy J. Dieter Jr., died in 2015.
