Lawrence R. 'Larry' Sibley, police officer

Lawrence R. "Larry" Sibley, a retired Baltimore County police officer who had a second career in security and as an office manager, died Thursday from heart disease at his home in Shrewsbury, Pa. He was 64.

The son of an Old Bay Line seaman and a homemaker, Mr. Sibley was born in Baltimore and raised on Frankford Avenue in Gardenville.

After graduating in 1965 from City College, Mr. Sibley entered the police academy, from which he graduated the next year.

He joined the Baltimore County Police Department in 1967 and had worked as a detective. At the time of his retirement in 1987, he was in the planning and budget division.

Mr. Sibley received several certificates of merit and appreciation for his work developing programs.

He was assistant director of security at Sinai Hospital for several years before becoming office manager in 1989 of Baltimore County Lodge No. 4 of the Fraternal Order of Police in Carney.

Mr. Sibley, who had held local, state and national lodge positions, had not retired at his death.

A resident of Shrewsbury since 1978, Mr. Sibley enjoyed reading about Thomas Jefferson and Colonial history and vacationing in Williamsburg, Va. He also liked to watch college football and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Mr. Sibley was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, Pa., where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Mary Frances Braml; a son, Christian Andrew Sibley of Mount Wolf, Pa.; a daughter, Holly Ann Lamont of Wyomissing, Pa.; a brother, George Hokemeyer of Joppa; a sister, Joan E. German of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.
