Laura F. Shaffer, bakery manager, dies

Laura F. Shaffer, whose career as a Giant Food employee spanned more than two decades, died of an aneurysm Dec. 1 at Northwest Hospital.

The Fullerton resident was 45.

The daughter of Keith Forsythe and Ivi Collier, Laura Maria Forsythe was born in Baltimore and raised in Perry Hall.

She graduated from Perry Hall High School and attended Loyola University Maryland and Towson University.

Ms. Shaffer began work as a bagger at the Giant store in White Marsh when she was 16. She remained with the grocery store chain and at the time of her death was the bakery manager at its Owings Mills location.

"She was exceptionally hardworking and a reliable employee who made many friends along the way," her mother wrote in an email profile.

She was an avid Ravens fan and a cat fancier. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her mother said.

"Laura was a fine and generous woman, quick to smile and lend a hand," wrote her mother, who lives in Perry Hall. "We were blessed to have her in our lives and will always miss her."

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 10 years, Tim Shaffer of Fullerton; her father, Keith Forsythe of Fayetteville, Pa.; two daughters, Amber Hardy of Fullerton and Arin Shaffer of Port Deposit; her stepfather, Jeff Collier of Perry Hall; her stepmother, Sharon Forsythe of Fayetteville, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
