John E. Kuhn, accountant

John E. Kuhn was a certified public accountant whose career spanned more than four decades.

John E. Kuhn, a certified public accountant whose career spanned more than four decades, died Wednesday at Stella Maris Hospice of complications from dementia. He was 78.

The son of Dr. John James Kuhn, a physician, and Frances Earley Kuhn, a homemaker, John Earley Kuhn was born and raised in Washington, where he graduated in 1953 from Gonzaga High School.

After earning a degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame in 1957, he began his career in Baltimore at what was then Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, now Deloitte. He became a partner in the firm.

In 1981, he joined Mid Atlantic Toyota Distributors Inc. in Glen Burnie as vice president of finance and administration. After the business was sold in 1988 to Frederick Weisman Co., Mr. Kuhn remained with the firm until retiring in 1998.

The longtime Timonium resident was a former president of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.

A golfer, he was a founding member and past president of the Towson Golf and Country Club in Phoenix, Baltimore County. He also remained a lifelong Notre Dame sports fan.

His wife of 49 years, the former Marie Heudak, died in 2003.

Mr. Kuhn was a communicant for nearly 50 years of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 101 Church Lane, Cockeysville, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Kuhn is survived by three sons, James W. Kuhn of Port Deposit, Mark S. Kuhn of Lancaster, Pa., and Michael J. Kuhn of King of Prussia, Pa.; a daughter, Mary C. Kuhn of Seattle; and six grandchildren.
