Jeannette Ruth Chilcoat, who worked in a family insurance business, died of congestive heart failure Dec. 24 at the Brightview Mays Chapel Ridge retirement facility. She was 93.

Born in Lincoln University, Pa., she was the daughter of Arthur Wichhart, an insurance broker, and Violet Hannum, a teacher.

She graduated from Oxford High School in Oxford, Pa., and studied nursing at Union Memorial Hospital.

As a student nurse, she lived at Wohomis, now the Susanna Wesley House, a residence for working women. It was located on Park Avenue in Mount Vernon.

At Wohomis, she met her future sisters-in-law, who also lived at the house. They brought her home to meet their brother, Charles B. Chilcoat Jr. They married in 1948.

She went on to manage her husband's Timonium insurance agency. She retired in 1989.

Mrs. Chilcoat attended Loch Raven United Methodist Church and served in its Women's Circle. She also sat on the board of Susanna Wesley House. She was active in a YMCA organization, the Canoy Club.

She was also active in the Towson Kiwanis and received the orgnization's Lifetime Achievement Award. She enjoyed playing bridge and the card game 500. She was also a gardener and read widely.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Jessops United Methodist Church, 14021 York Road in Sparks.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years; a son, Charles B. Chilcoat III of Annapolis; two daughters, Joan C. Smyth of Cockeysville and Susan C. Emory of Hunt Valley; a brother, Charles Wichhart of Lincoln University, Pa.; a sister, Alice Moroney of Oxford, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
