Howard G. "Sonny" Willey Sr., postal worker

Howard G. "Sonny" Willey Sr., a retired postal worker and Army veteran, died Friday at Anne Arundel Medical Center of heart failure. He was 81.

Howard Gordon Willey Sr. was born in Baltimore and raised in Pasadena. He was a 1951 graduate of Glen Burnie High School and served in the Army for eight years and fought in Korea.

He was discharged in the late 1950s and took a job with the post office, where he worked for more than three decades until retiring in the late 1980s. He then took a job as a funeral home attendant at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home in Severna Park.

The former longtime Pasadena resident, who had lived at the Future Care Nursing Home in Arnold for the past two years, was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Willey enjoyed bowling and was an avid Orioles and Ravens fan.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park.

Mr. Willey is survived by two sons, Howard G. "Bud" Willey Jr. of Pasadena and Michael "Mick" Willey of Ellicott City; three daughters, Deborah Hauswald, Wilma Heinbuch and Tammy Wright, all of Pasadena; a brother; three sisters; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
